Certification of Wi-Fi access points in Ukraine
In the modern world, it is difficult to imagine an office, cafe or apartment that is not equipped with a wireless access network. Mainly, fast and easy connection of devices in such network is provided by using a Wi-Fi wireless access point. It is a base station designed to provide access to an existing network or to create a new network. The access point is connected to the router, switch or hub using a cable and carries out the «distribution» of the Wi-Fi signal, providing processing of about 60 simultaneous connections. The maximum data rate is regulated by 802.11 standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac), supported by equipment (from 11 Mbps for 802.11b to 6.77 Gbps for 802.11ac).
The design differences between Wi-Fi access points are often dictated by the orientation of the equipment for indoor or outdoor use. Thus, devices intended for the use in residential and industrial premises are usually equipped with a low-power integrated or external antenna and a relatively weak transmitter, which, nevertheless, is designed to provide the stable operation throughout the range of operation in conditions of a large number of partitions and potential interference created by Wi-Fi networks located in adjacent premises. Such equipment operates, typically, in the frequency range of 2.4 GHz (802.11b/g/n), providing a maximum transfer rate of up to 300 Mbps.
Wireless access points designed for external placement are equipped with a rugged, environmentally resistant enclosure, a powerful transmitter and one or more high gain external or built-in antennas. Typically, such access points are powered by a twisted-pair cable with a length of up to 25 meters using PoE technology, which reduces the cost and labor of installing the equipment and allows for greater flexibility in choosing a location for installation. Such equipment operates mainly in the frequency range of 5 GHz (802.11a/n/ac), providing a maximum transfer rate of up to 6.77 Gbps.
Access points equipped with a remote antenna, oriented to the location outside the buildings, are an excellent solution for covering large areas (holiday villages, stadiums, airports) with a steady signal and providing telecommunication over long distances – up to 15 km. Using the 5 GHz band reduces the effect of interference, by which the 2.4 GHz band is currently overfilled.
It should be noted that in the case of the radio interfaces components in equipment the Ukrainian law requires from the manufacturer (or authorized by the manufacturer person – a resident of Ukraine) or supplier of the equipment to perform the assessment of radio equipment conformity according to one of the procedures specified by the Technical regulation of conformity assessment modules.
